Drug Rehab Center

Tonight Maxim the director of the adaptation center where I live drove me out to Chervonye. This is a small village west of town. Here is located the first drug rehabilitation center. It is a very small house (really small 1000 sq ft maybe) on a farm. I gave them some of my testimony about my own process of deliverance, and then shared with them how to pray Gods word and will over themselves. Tonight I was able to teach them in Russian a little and answer there questions in Russian. It is exiting to be here.

Back in Mariupol

I arrived in Mariupol this morning Sunday March 7th after taking 3 airplanes, a very long train ride and 48 hours later I made it. The weather is cold and we had snow all through the night as I road the train from Kiev to Mariupol.

In the photo is Natasha whom I have known about 2 years. She lives here in the adaptation center and works as a cook for the children in the orphanage. We were able to send her $50 about two months ago so she could buy some eye glasses. Now she can see better. She was extremely exited to show them to me…

Departing Mariupol

Zshanya is a young man who I have known a little more than a year. His parents were drug addicts and died when he was young. He is only 28 years old. Here in Mariupol addicts learn that they can shoot up a cold medication called “ Coldrex”. They get high from it, but it causes neurological damage. Zshanya cannot walk or talk. He has lost control of those muscles that control his tongue. He shuffles around by hanging onto the walls and door facings, but he isn’t very mobile.

Every morning when he shuffles down the stairs, he comes into my room and we drink coffee. I pray for him and then I read the Word to him for about an hour. He loves the attention and connection. Today at 5:00 PM my train left Mariupol for Kiev. We all shed a few tears. Zshenya always cries when I leave and today was no different. We all hugged and I said “good bye”. They all looked at me and said, “ Mi zsdyom tebya”. Literally it means “ we wait you”. We all are waiting for my next visit.

Our Friends In Siberia

All of us here in Mariupol have a very close relationship with another church in Novosibirsk, Russia. It is a city in Siberia, which is a three-day ride by train. I have a missionary friend, Fred, who is from Texas and he serves there. From time to time Fred’s visa expires and he has to exit Russia. He always comes to Mariupol and lives at the adaptation center. So there are close friendships that have developed. It has been a joy to watch everyone connect with Fred and their other friends who live in Siberia and also visit. Six or seven of them were here when I arrived. Many mornings we have spoken with Fred and have seen him on the web cam. I knew that my computer and internet connection through the cell phone network would be a blessing for me because it would allow me to work in the evenings, but I never anticipated the blessings and smiles that it would bring to all who love and long to see their friends in Siberia.

How Much We Have In America

Every time I come to Ukraine the experience humbles me. Somehow the Lord always manages to shake me up, and I even feel that I am disciplined by His hand of love. Today was one of those days…. After church I stopped by a small outside kiosk and purchased a roasted chicken; then I brought it back to the adaptation center for everyone to eat. It cost about $7.00, so I really thought nothing of it. Everyone ate and enjoyed the chicken. Suddenly I realized that it was a treat for them; several said “WOW”, and everyone’s eyes got really big! Then the Lord reminded me of all the soup we eat. We don’t eat a lot of fresh meats. Here, we do not throw anything away; food that is not eaten is saved for the dogs. None of the chicken made it to the dog dish! Brothers and sisters, the Lord says that if we do His commands we “will eat the good of the land”. At home in America, we are eating the good of the land and I don’t think we even realize it. I think that I will never complain again….Help me lord to be more thankful.

This is little 4 year old Dina. Her mother, Olya, arrived at the adaptation center about 3 weeks ago. Her husband is abusive and she is afraid of him. However, Olya feels stuck and does not know what to do. My Russian is not yet advanced enough to understand all the details, but I do understand much of what she told me.

She came to me after I spoke in church on Sunday and shared with me the details of her pain. She asked me to pray with her, which I was happy to do. It is amazing how God works! When I pray here, I always pray in English. She does not understand a word of English but the Lord’s grace and healing is always present. With tears running down her face, she said she felt warmth and heat as we prayed.

Olya and Dina went back to an abusive home on Friday. Olya was not eager to go, but she felt she had no other options. I will miss Olya’s Ukrainian Borsh (very tasty soup).

May the Lord be with them and protect them

Our trips to the doctor

My trip to Ukraine has been very smooth and all has gone very easily. However the last two days I am fighting a head cold, sinus and a sore throat. We live in very close conditions and several of us are sick. Pray for me and my recovery. I am not seriously ill but I would like to feel stronger. It is not a comfortable place to be sick.

I spent 5 days last week helping Zshenya go from doctor to doctor. He is disabled and is trying to get a government pension. On a Monday he and I and Natasha who talks for him because he cannot speak, drove about 30 minutes to a hospital where he got permission to see a doctor. It was a official of the government who was dressed like a policeman. Zshenya had to show his passport and certain other documents and then he got permission.

We then went back across town to another hospital and climbed more stairs. Zshenya is very big and cannot walk without my help. We sat in front of two doctors and they said to come back on Friday.

On Friday we went back to the hospital and Zshenya’s chest was x-rayed and then we went home. The following Monday we went to another hospital and we waited to see another doctor. We saw this doctor for about 5 minutes and she said to come back in a few days. So we came back a few days later, this time they took some blood and the doctor saw him. After she saw him again and examined him for about 15 minutes she sent us to another doctor downstairs and he filled out some forms and we left. We are scheduled to go back to the doctor again on August the 25th.

In all we went to 3 different hospitals and saw 4 different doctors. All of this appears to be government red tape to prove that Zshenya is disabled which is obvious to everybody. The trips are difficult because there are no wheelchairs and very few elevators. It is tiring on me and Zshenya but we are all happy to be together…..

I watched the Lord heal mom’s foot

Luke 13:12-13 Jesus said “Woman you are set free from your infirmity”. 13 Then he put his hands on her and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

Luke 13:16 Jesus said “ should not this women a daughter of Abraham whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen years be set free….

Clearly it can be said that this women was bent over by a demon or spirit of infirmity as Jesus named it. In this passage Jesus cast out the spirit and then he healed her. And the same thing happened to my mother in July 2009. Her foot was haled right before our eyes.

I was sitting in mothers house with my daughter Margaret Ann, a friend of mine named Jason and also my mother. Mother was recovering from foot surgery and she was not doing very well. We found her in a very weakened state of mind and body. I felt like we should pray so I told Margaret Ann to lay hands on her grandmother and pray for her heart. It was a power full time and mother began to weep.

Jason moved over to my mother and began to pray and then I got up and lay hands on mother also. As Jason prayed he began to pray for deliverance and mother began to have mild manifestations and then she began to cough uncontrollably which is a sign of deliverance taking place.

As Jason finished praying I felt the Lord say to me “ go lay hands on her foot and talk to her foot” As I did mothers foot began to shrink before our eye’s. Her foot was swollen like a soft ball and we all watched it as it went down like a deflating ballon. We were all in awe and I have never seen anything like this in my life. Margaret Ann jumped around and screamed, mother cried for joy and praised God and Jason and I ran around the room and just laughed. It was an incredible time of victory.

A spirit can cause you to be sick and when it leaves you can still be sick. In Luke chapter 13 the Lord ministered deliverance and then healing. The same pattern happened to my mother.
